The officer-in-charge of a police station in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharswan district was suspended on Thursday after a youngster, 18, who was detained for questioning, was discovered hanging inside it, a police officer stated.
The teenager, a resident of Dhalbhumgarh in East Singhbhum district, was taken into custody lately for interrogation after he allegedly eloped with a minor woman on October 26.
The woman’s household went to Dhalbhumgarh and introduced her and the 18-year-old to the Bal Mitra thana (child-friendly police station) right here the subsequent day. She was allowed to go residence whereas his boyfriend was detained.
The teenager allegedly used his belt to hold himself to loss of life inside a cell of the Bal Mitra thana inside the campus of Seraikela police station on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police Anand Prakash inspected the police station following the incident and suspended Officer-in-Cost Manohar Kumar.
The SP requested Seraikela Circle Inspector Ram Anup Mahato to take over the cost until additional order.
When contacted, the SP confirmed the suspension of Kumar.
“We’ve got ordered an inquiry by a Justice of the Peace as per the rules of the Nationwide Human Rights Fee. Steps will likely be initiated towards the erring police personnel,” Prakash stated.
